Henna by Shaina

About Shaina

As a teenager, Shaina doodled henna designs all over her school notebooks. She paid special attention to the cover of each notebook, making collages of henna designs and her favorite hip hop/reggae lyrics. Listening to music while adorning her notebooks was therapeutic through her teenage years and into her twenties.

Shaina is a middle school teacher by day & henna artist by night. Born to parents from East Africa (Kenya and Uganda), Shaina finds stories of cultures, colonization, immigration fascinating.

Henna has become a healing tool that helps her connect deeply with culture, family, ancient histories, and plant medicine. Henna is a meditation practice that pushes Shaina past impatience and towards self love.

Shaina loves how henna/mehendi brings people together intimately. She loves connecting with clients and other artists. It is a gift to be able to witness so many joyous occasions and chapters is her clients' lives.

Shaina works from a place of love and is mindful of her clients' needs. She sees henna as a  unique way of connecting with people across religions/cultures to celebrate our beautiful and unique bodies!

A Bay Area native, now based in San Francisco, she takes appointments throughout the Bay Area.
